History has shown that no team has ever managed to erase such a big deficit and progress in the 48 years that the competition has been in existence but a defiant DeMbare still believe that can be done.
Mutuma, still searching for his first Champions League goal this year likened their task against the North Africans in Sunday’s match to “total war”.
The air of defiance has however, been blowing in the Harare giants’ camp and Mutuma yesterday added his voice insisting they can match what Esperance achieved in Tunis two weeks ago.
Early on this week, team captain George Magariro and his deputy Washington Arubi and veteran forward Murape Murape also rallied DeMbare to avenge the mauling they received in Tunis.
“We lost 6-0 in the away tie but this time we aim to score six goals or more.
“Esperance are a very good team that’s why they are the African champions but we have since picked ourselves up from that defeat.
“Everything is possible in football.
“This time we have to prove to our fans that we are also a competitive team.
“This is like a war and we need to fight,” said Mutuma.
Dynamos were training at Rufaro yesterday with chief striker Takesure Chinyama running with a slight limp.
Chinyama missed the first day of training on Tuesday due to a bereavement in his family while Milton Makopa also has to shake off an injury ahead of the game.
Mutuma, who struck a brace in their 4-2 league win over Hwange on Sunday reckons that collective team effort could see Dynamos rewriting the history books by beating Esperance for the first time.
“At the moment everyone is working very hard.
“As players we are trying to create chances for each other.
“I think we have improved as a team as we no longer rely on one player for goals.
“I have scored in the previous games and so did Denver (Mukamba), Takesure (Chinyama) and Murape (Murape).
“We need teamwork to win games,” said Mutuma.
While Dynamos are embarking on an almost Mission Impossible, Mutuma is positive that they will fight hard for a positive result.
“If everyone in the team is now capable of scoring, then we can also hit the nets more.
“Some people might say it’s impossible but every one in the team knows that we have to raise our game high.
“But it is also important that we also play well in defence so that we do not concede goals and the midfielders should also try to keep supplying the balls,” said the lanky forward.
The ginger-haired striker also rallied on the Dynamos fans to be supportive.
“While we try to put something like 160 percent effort, we also need the support of the fans.
“During the game in Esperance, their fans were behind them for the whole game.
“Sometimes the supporters boo us off when we make mistakes instead of encouraging us,” said Mutuma.
In 1999, Esperance came here and beat Dynamos 2-0 at the National Sports Stadium during the mini-league stage before winning 1-0 in Tunis.
Although they may have beaten Tunisian opposition in the form of Etoile du Sahel, Dynamos are still to record a win over Esperance who are expected to arrive in Harare tomorrow at around 5.20pm.
Sudanese match officials will handle the match.
