DYNAMOS coach Genesis Mangombe does not believe the departure of midfielder Junior Makunike to Simba Bhora has left the Harare giants exposed.
DeMbare fans were unhappy with the team’s midfield as they were outplayed by Ngezi Platinum Stars in the Castle Challenge Cup match at the Baobab on Saturday.
Ngezi Platinum won the match 2-0, avenging a similar defeat suffered in the final of the Chibuku Super Cup at the same venue in December last year.
For Dynamos, it was just a poor display as they looked out of shape with gaping holes in midfield.
It could be down to an adjustment period as they recently lost Makunike to Simba Bhora, who provided cover for Tanaka Shandirwa and Donald Mudadi in this zone.
Shandirwa and Mudadi were caged by Ngezi Platinum’s sitting midfielder, Richard Hachiro, all day.
Mangombe has enjoyed the overwhelming backing of the team’s fans since taking over from Herbert Maruwa last season.
But DeMbare fans let him know that they do not agree with his affection for Shandirwa, who is no longer the same player he was when he joined Dynamos.
However, Mangombe insisted that the departure of Makunike did not affect his camp in any way.
“Makunike is a fine player, but he is no longer with us and we need to talk about those who are still here.
“I think things just went wrong, and I don’t think it was because of his absence. We have players who are equally good in that position,” said Mangombe
