‘DeMbare not pressing panic button’

DYNAMOS chairman Isaiah Mupfurutsa says there is no need for a technical reshuffle at the Glamour Boys as their team is still in contention for the Castle Lager Premiership football title.

Mupfurutsa yesterday said coach Tonderai Ndiraya and his technical team have his full support despite the misgivings by sections of DeMbare fans in the last few weeks. Dynamos supporters are apparently divided following a recent dip in form that has seen their team losing considerable ground in the championship race.

The Harare giants retreated eight points behind log leaders FC Platinum at the weekend following their 0-1 defeat at the hands of newboys Cranborne Bullets at Vengere.

Dynamos are third in the race with 35 points, three behind Chicken Inn. FC Platinum consolidated their place when they extended their tally to 43 points following a seven-match winning streak.

DeMbare fans are getting restless after their team failed to collect a win in the last three outings. Mupfurutsa yesterday said the DeMbare executive will not be forced into knee-jerk reaction to situations as he believes the phase will soon pass.

“We are still very strong contenders in the race,” said Mupfurutsa.

“It’s a fact we are going through a lean phase, which is normal for any football team. Just look at the log leaders FC Platinum, they went through a similar patch at some point this season. You can also look at Chicken Inn who are also on top of us. They haven’t had it easy but they didn’t fire their coaches.

“It’s unfortunate that our stakeholders, the fans, always expect winning week in and week out. But in football sometimes it doesn’t work that way.

“So we are not going to press the panic button. Our team is not that bad because at some point we have been winning games and we also sat at the top of the table before this unfortunate phase.

“So if anything, we need all stakeholders to be rallying behind the teams. We can do so much with unity of purpose,” said Mupfurutsa. FC Platinum’s resurgence has had most of the DeMbare faithful fretting. While the platinum miners have been scoring for fun and getting maximum points home and away, Dynamos have been found wanting in front of goal, with four of the last five outings barren.

“I am confident that this poor streak will come to an end soon.

“Remember we are coming from the deep end. We all know that the team hasn’t been doing well in the past few seasons and it’s encouraging this year we have seen some bit of light.

“So we would need to build on that. Right now we are not far off from the top teams, considering the number of games that we still have to play.

“It’s quite a process to put together a team and start competing for silverware. As the chairman I fully back the coach, the players and the technical staff. They need our support instead of discouragement.

“We cannot help the team by heaping pressure on them,” said Mupfurutsa.

Dynamos, who have not won the league title since 2014, face log leaders in an interesting match-up at the National Sports Stadium this Sunday.
