DYNAMOS return to Kwekwe this weekend – three decades after a similar visit to the Golden City ended in humiliation for the Glamour Boys.
Lancashire Steel were the opponents in 1994 and, at the end of the battle, DeMbare were licking their wounds after a 3-6 defeat.
Dynamos have been back in Kwekwe since then but their sensational collapse, on that afternoon, remains a talking point every time the Glamour Boys come to town. On Sunday, they have a date against Hardrock at the Chahwanda Stadium.
With CAPS United playing on Monday, Hardrock have a chance to open a gap at the top of the table.
The club’s supporters’ association have spent the week rallying fans to arrive early, wear club colours and transform Chahwanda into a sea of green-and-white. Hardrock supporters’ chairman, Tadious Marima, said they were mobilising fans to ensure Chahwanda will be full on Sunday.
“Definitely, we are going to outnumber the DeMbare supporters. We must all sing and chant our slogan to outclass them wearing Hardrock regalia,” said Marima. “We are going to try our best and mobilise all fellow fans to support our team. We will be on top of our voices, we will encourage everyone to sing no matter what. Our brass band is superb. We are going to make sure they will feel us. Hardrock is us.”
Dynamos Supporters Kwekwe Chapter secretary-general, Willard “Widzo” Denis said they will paint the city blue, red and white.
“It has been a long time since Dynamos played here in Kwekwe so definitely we are going to outnumber our rivals. Actually the away side bay is too small to contain Dynamos fans. We are Dynamos Kwekwe Chapter, ‘tomirirei kuzora butter?’ That’s our motto.
“As Kwekwe Chapter, we have lined up a massive road show as we will be joined by all Dynamos chapters from across the country.”
