SHADRECK Nyahwa’s fortunes have drastically changed at Dynamos.
Literally an outcast just a little over a month ago under Genesis Mangombe, the utility man is enjoying a new lease of life under interim gaffer Lloyd “Mablanyo” Chigowe.
His confidence levels have been growing in each of the four games he has played under Chigowe.
And the lanky gaffer has described him as the heart, soul and spirit of Dynamos with whom he wants to build a strong team around.
The former Bulawayo Chiefs man is settling well in his preferred central midfield role where he has been deployed since Chigowe took over.
He was central to DeMbare’s 1-0 win over Zambia side ZESCO United in the first leg of the CAF Confederation Cup first preliminary round in Gaborone, Botswana last month.
That was before another outstanding performance in the second leg in Ndola, Zambia which ended goalless to ensure the Glamour Boys’ progress to the second preliminary round where they will face Botswana’s Orapa United.
And Nyahwa was even more superb when leading Dynamos to a 1-0 victory over Chegutu Pirates on their return to the local league at Rufaro on Saturday.
He was by far the best man on the field, winning most of the duels he was involved in and coming on top in both tackles and interceptions to be deservedly named the man-of-the-match.
And Chigowe, who has followed every step that Nyahwa has walked in his career, believes the ex-Young Warriors star has what it takes to drive Dynamos on.
“Shadreck Nyahwa is the heart and soul as well as the spirit of the team,” said Chigowe.
“We have now nicknamed him Amrabat (after former Manchester United’s Morocco star Sofyan), the man who does the dirty job for the team. Nyahwa played for the Under-14 national team, for the Under-17, for the Under-20 and Under-23 national teams.
“So he is a young man who is exposed and he is solid”.
While Nyahwa had sparingly been used as backup at left-back by Mangombe, Chigowe says the player thrives well in his natural position in which he made a name for himself playing for Chiefs.
“I think he is our defensive linkman.
“Coaches obviously see things differently,” added Chigowe.
“The same team can have different results with different coaches.
“So that’s what football is all about.”
Nyahwa will be expected to play yet another key role as Dynamos face ZPC Kariba in a rescheduled Chibuku Super Cup first round tie at Rufaro tomorrow.
The defending champions were unavailable when the first round kicked off last month as they were on international duty.
They will be eager to reach the last eight and ultimately win the trophy that will enable them to play in the CAF Confederation Cup again next year.
“The motivation is the same. We are going all out to try and win the match against ZPC Kariba,” said Nyahwa.
“I am happy with my current form but I have several areas where I also need to improve so that my overall game can continue to go the positive way.”
