“I would like to thank you for rallying behind the team, BancABC our sponsors and Latchelle Travel for paying our bonuses for the players and the technical team. Special mention is accorded to you in Zvishavane Chapter because Dynamos won the league in Zvishavane after beating the then log leaders FC Platinum, “said Mubaiwa in a speech read on his behalf by the Zvishavane Chapter chairman Mathew Masvanganye.
The Dynamos chairman said the team’s performance was poor when they took over in July as Dynamos had 30 points from 19 games and was 12 points behind the log leaders, highlighting the loss to Blue Ribbon and the two draws to Chicken Inn and Black Mambas.
“We decided to fire the technical team led by Lloyd Mutasa and replaced it with Callistus Pasuwa with assistants Tichaona Diya and Tonderayi Ndiraya. They did a tremendous job winning the championship and the
Mbada Diamonds cup. God is great because BancABC surprised us with a sponsorship package for the Champions League. We are planning to go into camp from January as preparations for the Champions League and planning to play friendly matches against clubs from South Africa, Zambia and Botswana before the league starts. We want to put more emphasis on junior football development hence the appointment of
Raymond Kazembe as an executive member,” he said.
Masvanganye said the reason for the party was to celebrate an achievement which nearly was never going to happen.
“We are celebrating as Dynamos is the most recognised team in Africa since we drew with Hearts of Oak in 1998 to proceed to the finals. Zimbabwe now has two slots in the Champions League and our neighbours who have a cash rich league do not have two slots like us all because of Dynamos. If Esperance hears the name Dynamos inonzwa mudumbu nekuti DeMbare inorova. We are the most recognised team in Zimbabwe,” he said to a big round of applause.
Before the party the DeMbare fans staged a mini road show along Robert Mugabe Way which is the main street in the town.
