Over two hundred families had their housing structures demolished on Monday by Sunway City, a subsidiary of the Industrial Development Corporation of Zimbabwe.
“There is no humanitarian face and timing was absolutely wrong since they did not give people the chance to move away or search for alternative accommodation.”
He said demolitions were not a directive from the party or the President’s Office.
“It is not the President who sent people to ravage homes and people should not lay their blame on Zanu-PF, but the company that is involved in the whole process.”
He said the party had since spoken to the Epworth council to establish the boundary of the land. “We have sought audience with the Governor and provincial administrator’s office to establish if there is alternative land to re-locate the people,” Cde Midzi said.
He said the party would conduct internal investigations on corruption allegations levelled against some party members.
“Apart from the internal measures we are going to rope in the police to arrest those who will be caught on the wrong side of the law.”
Sunway City general manager Mr Kwaku Dzvukamanja said the eviction process was legally conducted.
“Due process was followed in obtaining the final court order authorising the eviction of the settlers. In August 2011 we communicated with the first group of settlers advising them they had settled illegally and an initial number of 48 settlers were identified and listed as respondents in the case before the High Court.
He said the settlers continued defying the orders. “On September 26 this year, a judgment was passed which authorised the eviction of the settlers and demolition of the illegal structures,” he said.
