“The measures introduced by the Registrar General’s department have not affected the price of the passport,” he said.
“The price of the ordinary passport remains at US$53. The issue of the US$33 was a misprint and we might change the prices if we find this new process expensive,  but for the meantime prices have not changed,” he said.
An emergency passport that takes three days costs US$253 including US$3 application fee.
“Some of the suggestions given by some of the 28 718 people who visited our website have been taken heed of,” Mr Mudede said.
“The response to the website has been enormous and this has resulted in some people having problems in accessing the website.
“Efforts are being made in consultation with the Government Internet service provider to ensure that the public has easy access to the website.”
The RG’s Office last week said it would also send SMS messages to passport applicants to collect their documents while application forms would be filled on line. The digitalisation is expected to bring convenience to the public.
The applicants download the application forms online and take them to the passport office after filling them in.
“This will also enable visual verification, fingerprinting, signature and photograph taking. The passport must be the most secure travel document,” Mr Mudede said.
The development is expected to improve efficiency and reduce time spent queuing for the forms.
The passport application form can only be printed after it has been completely filled in.
