As part of its efforts to complement Government initiatives in providing low-cost housing to ordinary citizens, a local organisation, Destiny of Africa Network, has launched a scheme titled ‘2030 Housing Project’.
The scheme is expected to benefit thousands of homeless individuals nationwide by providing housing.
Destiny of Africa Network specifically targets ordinary citizens in the informal sector, including women and youths engaged in vocational activities to benefit from the scheme.
Addressing hundreds of potential beneficiaries at the launch of the housing project in Harare on Saturday, Destiny of Africa Network founder Reverend Obadiah Musindo said the scheme will be rolled out in phases across various towns.
“This is a project under the theme “2030 Housing Project”, now, we are launching a programme in line with Vision 2030,” he said.
“When I say in line with Vision 2030, we are starting now, which is actually the end of 2024, and in reality, the beginning of 2025 up to 2030.
“We are launching in other towns. We are launching Phase 2, like Harare, we are launching Phase 2. In other towns we are also launching Phase 2, Phase 3, Phase 4.
“By 2030, we are targeting to have provided 100 000 housing units.”
Rev Musindo said the houses will have modern designs in line with the Second Republic’s vision of modern and smart development.
“We will be having high-rise buildings, smart apartments and modern housing units,” he said.
“We campaigned for President Mnangagwa in 2023 promising people development, including housing. So, we are here to start fulfilling these promises, including job creation, because we’re going to be making our own bricks, our own building materials, and so forth.”
Destiny of Africa Network has in the past been praised for its exceptional efforts in providing low-cost housing units, especially to low-income earners and those in the informal sector.
Since 2003, the organisation has been running programmes designed to enable low-income earners and ordinary people in the informal sectors to own houses.
Tens of thousands have so far benefited from Destiny of Africa Network initiatives.
