Devastating hailstorm hits Masvingo, damages buildings

At least 60 households have been left counting losses after a storm accompanied by strong winds and a hailstorm swept through Ipisham Suburb in Masvingo today.

The storm, which started in the afternoon, left a trail of destruction, uprooting trees, blowing off roofs and damaging property.

A car was also damaged after trees were uprooted by the strong winds.

Department of Civil Protection Unit Chief Director, Mr Nathan Nkomo, confirmed the incident, saying no injuries had been recorded so far.

“We received calls that 60 households have been affected. The wind uprooted trees and a car was damaged in the process. No injuries have been recorded so far,” said Mr Nkomo.

He said assessments are still underway to establish the full extent of the damage.

“An assessment is still going on and we will issue the final report,” he said.
