Chitungwiza based — Devine Beginners Preschool — has donated groceries and clothes to an orphanage in the dormitory town as the early learning institution shifts its teaching module to inculcate a sense of community responsibility among the young. The donation last week came as the early learning institution celebrated its first anniversary.
Presenting the groceries worth nearly U$2 000 and an assortment of clothes sourced by pre-school children with support from their parents, Devine Beginners Preschool co-founder Mr Godfrey Tarunga said the gesture was in recognition of the less privileged.
He urged people to safeguard the African tradition of giving and sharing. “It is in our culture to give those people in need. We are going through economic challenges as a country, but time and again, we should take stock of our clothes and ask ourselves when we last wore them,” he said.
“We are throwing away food after every meal, but there are some people in our communities who are failing to get decent meals.
“This donation is part of our curriculum to teach young children that we should give and assist the less privileged members in society.
“It is the hope of Devine Beginners Pre-school that our children will not only grow up bright, but take pride in working for the development of the nation.”
Mr Tarunga said while it was the aim of most organisations to make a profit, there was need to develop a human heart in the spending of the excess revenue. He said Zimbabwe was now being driven by small enterprises and it was the duty of such businesses to build a better Zimbabwe.
Accepting the donation, Maunganidze Kind Heart children’s Organisation founder, Gogo Kadzunge said the gesture was timely.
She said it was becoming difficult to look after orphans because of the economic hardships.
“People are now concerned with their personal lives. The economic situation has turned us into a selfish human beings and getting a donation is now a dream,” said Gogo Kadzunge.
“We appreciate such gestures as they go a long way in giving the less privileged some hope that there are indeed people who care for them.
“To us this is an early Christmas”
Devine Beginners Preschool is focused on providing early care and education that promotes social, emotional, physical and cognitive development in children below six years. It seeks to provide quality preschool education and day care facilities.
