Innocent Kurira
MIDFIELDER Devine Mhindirira has a big decision to make at a time when his contract with Highlanders is set to run out on Sunday.
Both parties are still on the negotiating table with Bosso doing all that they can to ensure the player stays at the club.
However, interest from clubs, which include FC Platinum, Simba Bhora and Chicken Inn could see the player making a move away from the Bulawayo giants. Highlanders chief executive officer, Sihlangu Dlodlo remains optimistic a deal will be concluded with the player.
“As a club, we are doing all we can to retain the player. He has also previously stated he would want to stay with us. The talks are on and we are hopeful,” said Dlodlo.
The 23-year-old midfielder has been facing an uncertain future at Bosso since October last year. But his problems started well before that when he was charged for failure to attend training sessions by the Bulawayo giants in February 2023. He, together with Adrian Silla, was even linked with a move to CAPS United.
While Silla eventually managed to sign with CAPS United, Mhindirira remained with Bosso.
Owing to a nagging injury, Mhindirira saw little game time at Bosso last season. It was the same year that the 2022 season Soccer Star of the Year finalist was called for a disciplinary hearing after he missed Bosso’s first three weeks of pre-season training.
He was let off the hook because he was still owed his 2019 signing-on fee as well as the signing-on fee from 2022 when he extended his contract.
In the build-up to the 2024 season, Mhindirira again was meant to leave Bosso but coach, Kelvin Kaindu is said to have insisted on the player staying at Bosso.
This was despite then Bosso chairman, Johnfat Sibanda having suggested they were not going to consider the player for this season as he was allegedly a bad apple in the team.
