Devolution funds: Runde RDC constructs three clinics

RUNDE Rural District Council in the Midlands province has constructed two clinics in the district to improve access to health services, but a shortage of water has caused work on the clinics to stall, an official has said.

In an interview, Runde RDC chief executive officer Mr Gorden Moyo said the local authority used its Devolution funds from Government for the project.

“We have built three clinics in the district to improve access to health as some villagers were walking for more than 15 kilometres to the nearest health facilities. These are Marira, Chirere and Shiku clinics and the projects are almost 80 percent complete.

“We have procured all the furniture and equipment needed for the clinics to function. We have drilled boreholes as well for easy access to clean water. Currently we are building additional staff houses to accommodate nurses,” he said.

Mr Moyo said they hope to open the clinic before the end of the year. “As we are almost done with the projects, we are hoping to commission all the three clinics before the end of this year,” he said.

Meanwhile, he said the local authority has also embarked on various projects like drilling boreholes and channelling piped water from Runde Dam to augment erratic water supply in the district.

“Due to serious shortages of water, we have started a project of channelling piped water from Runde dam to various parts of the district so that people can have water.

“Villages in the area have been facing perennial water shortages hence we decided to do this project. The project is almost complete and will also assist local health centres with access to clean water,” he said.
