Courier services firm DHL Express Zimbabwe says it is targeting to grow its footprint in the country by increasing service centres from the existing 100 to 1 000 by the end of this year.
DHL aims to achieve this by partnering with local business owners such as electronics stores, travel agencies and small grocery stores.
Customers of the small business would be able to access their services alongside those of DHL .
The small businesses would benefit from a commission on all DHL sales.
DHL Express Zimbabwe country manager Jeff Phiri told journalists on Thursday that the strategy of engaging retail partners was cost effective as opposed to building its own new branches.
He said the initiative would assist in increasing revenues for the company which was also making other investments to grow its Zimbabwe business.
“In a short space of time we shall be making some announcements on investments, huge investments that are coming,” he said.
“We have placed a massive vehicle order with a Germany organisation Volxwagon. We expect the vehicles in the country soon, so changing our vehicle fleet again reflects our strategy going forward. It is reflecting on our growth strategy.”
DHL Express Zimbabwe is part of Deutsche Post Group which has operations in over 220 countries.
Services that the company offers include logistics ranging from national and international parcel delivery, international express, road, air and ocean transport as well as industrial supply chain management.
The DHL Group generated revenues of more than 56 billion Euros in 2014. — New Ziana
