HERITAGE Village will host this year’s World Tourism Day commemorations in Harare on Saturday, with the event expected to showcase Zimbabwean culture while highlighting the growing role of digital technology and artificial intelligence in the tourism sector.
The commemorations are being hosted by the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) in partnership with the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry under the theme: “Digital Agenda and Artificial Intelligence to Redesign Tourism.”
In a statement, Heritage Village said hosting the event comes as African tourism destinations increasingly embrace digital innovation to improve visitor experiences, destination management and global competitiveness.
“The selection of Heritage Village reflects the growing importance of culturally-grounded destinations in Zimbabwe’s evolving tourism landscape. As an integral component of Liberation City, Heritage Village is more than a conference or events venue.
“It is a living cultural destination where African architecture, indigenous knowledge, cuisine, art, performance and storytelling converge to create authentic experiences for both domestic and international visitors,” said Heritage Village.
The venue said the national commemorations would bring together Government leaders, tourism stakeholders, exhibitors, entrepreneurs, academics, creatives and visitors from across Zimbabwe and beyond.
Heritage Village forms part of the broader Liberation City tourism ecosystem, which includes the Museum of
African Liberation, Harare Sunset Skydeck and Liberation Mall.
The development also includes the upcoming Liberation City Hotel and Conference Centre, presidential villas, an African-themed amusement park and an animal park.
“Together, these attractions represent a new model of integrated destination development that combines heritage, education, culture, leisure and business tourism within a single visitor experience,” said Heritage Village.
Zimbabwe has increasingly positioned tourism as a strategic pillar of economic growth, with business events, heritage tourism and cultural tourism identified as important components of the country’s tourism offering.
Heritage Village said it also provides facilities for conferences, public lectures, exhibitions, cultural festivals, weddings, corporate functions and community gatherings.
The World Tourism Day commemorations are expected to provide a platform for stakeholders to explore how digital technologies and artificial intelligence can reshape the tourism sector while preserving Zimbabwe’s cultural identity.
