Diarrhoea claims 12

TWELVE people died of diarrhoea across the country this week, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said yesterday.

This brings the number of people who have died of diarrhoea this year to 211. According to the ministry’ weekly disease update, Midlands is the hardest hit.

The report says 8 800 cases of diarrhoea were reported this week.

This brings the number of treated cases this year to 18 488.

“Of the reported cases 4 217 and 6 deaths were from the under five years age group,” the ministry said.

“The deaths were reported in Mutoko District in Mashonaland East Province (1), Mt Darwin District in Mashonaland Central Province (1), Mberengwa District in Midlands Province (5), Zaka District in Masvingo Province (3), and Chitungwiza (2).”
