Jameson High School has been hit by an outbreak of diarrhoea that has left some pupils admitted at Kadoma General Hospital. The hospital’s medical superitendent Dr Frankson Masiye confirmed the development saying they had been attending to pupils from Jameson High School suffering from running stomachs.
He, however, could not give further details as he was out of office.
Some of the affected pupils also had an opportunity to interact with Health and Child Care Minister Dr David Parirenyatwa when he visited the hospital on Tuesday last week.
The minister was touring the hospital which recently received a $2,5m renovation by platinum giants, Zimplats.
One of the pupils at hospital told Minister Parirenyatwa that they were not aware of the source of the disease.
“I started having a running stomach on Monday and I became worried when my fellow colleagues also complained of the same sickness,” he said.
Parents who were visiting their children at the hospital demanded an investigation into the matter.
“My child called me and indicated that almost 20 of them had been rushed to the hospital and we believe that something is amiss so we demand a serious probe into the matter,” said an irate parent.
According to medical practitioners, diarrhoea was usually common during the winter season since cold conditions are conducive for the thriving of a rota-virus that causes inflammation in the stomach and intestines.
