Diasporans build elite school in Tsholotsho

A group of Zimbabweans based in South Africa has launched Royal Avenue High School, a private boarding and day school set to open in Tsholotsho, Matabeleland North, in January 2025.

The project aims to challenge stereotypes that people from Tsholotsho undervalue education and also curtail migration to South Africa by providing affordable, quality learning.

Veteran educationist Ben Moyo, a retired headmaster from Bulawayo’s Masiye Phambili College, will lead the school and has started recruiting staff and students.

Day scholars will pay $250 per term, while boarders will pay $650, with modest non-refundable deposits.

Located in a rural setting under Chief Gampu, the school will offer traditional subjects like Mathematics, Science, Agriculture, and Music. Additionally, it aims to empower locals with agricultural skills.

The project reflects the growing impact of Zimbabwe’s diaspora, which has contributed over $16 billion in remittances over the past decade, supporting families and driving community development. (Southern Eye)
