DIVINE APPOINTMENTS: The Redeemed release first album

God.
As a result, in 1 Chronicles 6:31, we read that he put in charge men who would be in charge of the music in the Lord’s house after the Ark had been brought to Jerusalem.
According to a message on www.bibleplus.org, “Music fills the courts of heaven as heavenly beings praise our Lord and Creator. When God created the world, the morning stars sang together and all the angels shouted for joy (Job 38:7). God created man in His own image, to be an instrument of praise. He gave humans the ability to sing and to make music with musical instruments to complement the voice.”

This tradition has withstood the test of time as men continue to come together to give honour and praise to the Lord through music and dance.
An Epworth-based choral group The Redeemed, which is affiliated to the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe has just released its first album – “Jesu ari mufudzi” (Jesus, the shepherd).
The 8-track album includes four hymns from the “Nziyo dzeMethodist neminato” hymnal and four chorus songs written by members of The Redeemed who include Weston Muchemwa; Emmanuel

Yakobe; Thesias Shambare; Ashley Mawarire; Cuthbert Gaure; Medion ‘Doc’ Chiota; Terrence Mhere; Josiah Tambudzai; Justice Marufu and Evans Masiiwa. The album was produced by Mr Mparutsa and recorded at Shed Studios in Harare.
The tracks include: “Ichokwadi ndowangu Jesu” (It’s true, Jesus is my Lord); “Jesu ari mufudzi” (Jesus, the shepherd); “Rakanaka iro zuva” (How beautiful that day will be); “Zino irema” (Hypocrisy);

“Mwari muri zuva redu” (Lord, you are our light); “Wapabuda sei” (How did you escape?); “Hakuna zita sera Jesu” (There is no name like that of Jesus); “Zvinhu zvitatu” (Three things).
For those familiar with choral music from Vabvuwi in both the MCZ and United Methodist Church, “Jesu ari mufudzi” is an excellent addition to any Christian’s collection.
The voices blend in very well with the instruments – hosho, ngoma (cowhide drum) and trumpet – which are a hallmark of these choral groups. Medion Chiota, the group’s spokesperson said their goal is to spread the gospel through music.

They do live shows at church gatherings and weddings. This weekend, they will be performing in Centenary at the Methodist Church in Zimbabwe’s Harare East District event.
Like King David, they sing and dance very well. Their message is based on the word of God. “But, the messages in our songs also reflect what goes on in society. For example, ‘Zino irema’ highlights people’s hypocritical nature and we appeal to the Lord to fill them with Christ-like love. We also affirm Christ’s supremacy”, added Mr Chiota. All the tracks are about the Lord and His love. “Hakuna zita seraJesu” (there is no name above Jesus’ name) summing it all up. Although “Wapabuda sei” sounds like a question about how people get breakthroughs after facing difficult situations, the message they affirm is that the Lord Jesus is the answer.

“Zvinhu zvitatu” is a reminder about the devil’s guiles: lust of the eyes; lust of the flesh and pride of life. But, they proclaim that Christians are no longer afraid because through Jesus, they overcame fleshly desires.
Mr Chiota said that these groups are all male, not because they want to discriminate against women, but because there are a number of inconveniences for women: “Rehearsals usually end very late, and there is a lot of travelling involved. For wives and mothers, this is a problem”, said Mr Chiota.

He highlighted the challenges they faced, especially funding, but was grateful to people and organisations that helped them realise their dream.
“We will shoot our DVD soon. We also pledged that every year, we will release an album and accompanying DVD . . . (On piracy, he said,) There is little we can do about it, except to come up with strategies to counter them. We would also want to be on the Internet, but need guidance from people with the know-how. We’re confident about the future because this is the Lord’s work”, he concluded.
