After the successful hosting of the Miller Africa DJ Sound Clash battle, Cape to Cairo will this afternoon host another DJ battle with 10 upcoming DJ’s expected to battle it out. The DJs battle which was established this year has been dubbed: “Who’s Who”. The DJs who are going to be on the decks today earned the opportunity to compete after taking part in qualifying series which led to this finale. Moses, VJ Feel G, Miss Pam, King Staffa, Noma That Girl, Mh-1, DJ Khumz, Deejay K, Kead Wikead and Marcus Andro will battle it out for the top position.
The battle will see the DJs mixing music from various genres including Hip hop, RnB and house. Established DJs from the Group of DJs hangout have been selected to adjudicate.
Various artistes and DJs are expected to perform at the event including Tazz, T- Prizzie, Lasky Las, Deep Soul, Mpho The House Head, Charlie and Dbongs Deeper.
Contest manager Mark Vusani described today’s battle as a unique one which has not been seen in the city before.
“This battle has been brewing for a long time. It started off as an idea, we grew it, perfected it and decided to set the ball rolling in April. Now the battle is on,” he said.
The DJ who will come out tops and the first and second runner-ups will automatically secure spots at the Victoria Falls festival (Falls Fest) to take place later this year as part of the victor’s prize.
Vusani challenged females to consider taking up deejaying as a profession as the low numbers of female DJs in the contest was disappointing.
“The low number of female DJs participating in the battle clearly confirms women’s lack of interest in deejaying. It is not a big crisis but we hope to get more women entering next year so that they penetrate this male dominated field,” he said.
Only two female DJs, Miss Pam and Noma That Girl will be battling it out with the men today.
