Doctor in fight over girlfriend

Court Reporter
A MUTARE socialite popular for his bling-bling, Alhaji Arubi (36), last week appeared in court for assaulting and stabbing a medical doctor following a misunderstanding over a girlfriend. Arubi appeared before Mutare senior magistrate Mrs Sekai Chiundura and denied the charges of causing serious injuries to Dr Kumbirai Chirenda and Leslie Muchamwa.

Arubi was denied bail after Mrs Chiundura ruled that he had two outstanding cases, one of assault and another of theft of a Samsung Galaxy S5 phone.

He was remanded in custody to October 30.
Prosecuting, Brian Goto said on October 11 around 6pm at Raylton Sports Club, the complainants were having drinks when the accused suddenly appeared and called Leslie outside.

It is alleged that Arubi assaulted Leslie over the issue of his girlfriend whom he claimed had been snatched by Dr Chirenda. Sensing danger, Dr Chirenda decided to go home.

Arubi allegedly trailed Dr Chirenda’s car.
“When they arrived at the doctor’s residence, Arubi, who was in the company of his friend, Abdulla, got out of the car and assaulted Dr Chirenda. Dr Chirenda sustained injuries in the process.

“The complainant fell down and it is alleged that the accused went on to stab the doctor with a knife on his right palm leaving him bleeding profusely. Arubi only stopped assaulting the complainant after Dr Chirenda’s neighbour pleaded with him. A police report was made resulting in Arubi’s arrest,” said Mr Goto.

Dr Chirenda complained of acute neck pain and had to be scanned, costing him $650 in the process.
