Doctors find creepy stuff in patient’s stomach

DOCTORS were left baffled after finding hundreds of coins, nails, batteries and shards of glass inside a man’s stomach.

Burhan Demir — from Ipekyolu, Turkey — took his younger brother to hospital after he complained about abdominal pain.

But when doctors performed an endoscopy with ultrasound and X-ray scans they were amazed to discover 233 items in the 35-year-old’s stomach.

These included one-lira coins, batteries, magnets, nails, pieces of glass, stones and screws.

Surgeons later removed the items from the patient, named only as Z.

One surgeon — named only as Dr Binici — said: “During the surgery, we saw that one or two of the nails had passed through the stomach wall. We saw that there were two metal pieces and two stones of different sizes in the large intestine.

“We found that there were batteries, magnets, nails, coins, pieces of glass and screws. We cleaned his stomach completely. It is not a situation we see in adults, it is mostly in childhood and unconsciously swallowed foreign bodies.

“It can be seen in psychiatric patients, prisoners or abuse cases in the adult age group.”

Burhan told local media: “He was referred to this hospital. After the checks performed here, he was operated on and these objects were removed from his stomach.”

It is not clear when the operation took place, but the story was reported in local media on June 15.

Burhan added: “I thank the doctors for their attention and support.”

Students rape teacher

Five secondary school girls within the age range of 16 and 18 reportedly raped a Biology teacher (name withheld) to coma in ýAyetoro-Itele, a community in Ogun State, Nigeria.

News of the criminal act broke out when the man’s neighbour called the local police after finding him helpless and near-lifeless in his room.

According to the man’s neighbour, five school-age girls reportedly walked into the teacher’s room, a one-room apartment, where he was recovering from an undisclosed ailment.

The students, who were on mufti to hide their school identity, did not waste time to get down to “business”.

The unsuspecting teacher, who was certain they were students, wrongly imagined they came to pay him a quick-recovery visit.

According to the report, he was easily overpowered as his co-tenants had all gone for their various trades, except the neighbour that called police.

“I heard voices from inside his room, although faint, because our rooms are far apart. I thought he was merely having some conversation . . . but who would think something like that would have happened.

“I found him naked a few minutes after the girls left as I wanted to check on his health and so I called the nearest police,” said the neighbour in a police report.

The man was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital and were treatment was commenced on him by doctors and nurses on duty.

When contacted, the school principal maintained that none of his students could have done that but police investigators are working with the school management to get to the root of the matter.

Boy sheds skin every month

like a reptile

A 10-year-old boy has been dubbed the “human snake” due to his rare genetic skin condition that sheds his skin every month.

The youngster, known only as Jagannath, has to have a bath every hour and to cover himself in moisturiser every
three hours to relieve his painful symptoms.

Shocking photos of the young boy, from the Ganjam district of eastern India, show his skin completely dried out and flaky, stretched over his body like scales.

His skin has become so tight that he is often left unable to walk properly and needs a stick to help him stretch out his limbs.

Sadly, there is no cure for Jagannath’s condition and his father, Prabhakar Pradhan, who works as a labourer in a paddy field, cannot afford the cost of his son’s treatment.

He said: “My son has suffered this disease since childhood and there is no cure for it.

“I do not have enough money to take him for a treatment and my heart breaks seeing him suffer with this cursed disease every day.”

A dermatologist in the Indian district, who did not wish to be identified, said: “This disease is not treatable, although some doctors say there is a cure.”

Dr Rakhesh, senior consultant dermatologist at Aster MIMS hospital in Kerala, India, said lamellar ichthyosis is one of the rarest congenital skin conditions.

There is currently no cure, but the condition can be treated with creams and some medications to prevent complications and improve quality of life. — Wires.a
