A FOETUS that is suspected to have been aborted and buried was unearthed by a dog from a shallow grave in Mberengwa.
The dog dragged the foetus out of the shallow grave in Muremba Village under Chief Mposi.
Three women stumbled upon the dog dragging the baby on Tuesday last week on their way to fetch firewood.
One of the women Nyarai Muza told B-Metro that the foetus, which was at an advanced stage of decomposition, was taken to the police station.
a�?When we saw the dog dragging the baby we alerted other villagers and the village head who in turn made a police report. The police came to the scene and they ferried the decomposing remains,a�? said Muza.
A source who refused to be named said the police had so far arrested an 18-year-old girl from the village together with her mother whose names could not be established. She is suspected to have aborted.
a�?An 18-year-old girl has been arrested on allegations of pregnancy termination. She is also suspected to be the one who buried the remains of the foetus with the assistance of her mother,a�? said the source.
Village head Amos Mashoko confirmed the incident.
a�?I can confirm that such an incident happened in my village. We are very saddened by such a horrific incident. We hope that the person who did such a gruesome and evil act will be brought to book,a�? said Mashoko.
Chief Mposia��s phone was unreachable whenA� his comment was sought on the matter.
Midlands Acting police spokesperson assistant Inspector Mukwende could also not be reached for comment.
