Let’s Get Stylish Peter Matika
IT really is dope that American rapper – Jeffrey Williams, better known by his stage name Young Thug, is constantly out there challenging the common perception of how rappers dress. With jeans slung so low and tight, coupled with what I perceive to be ladies dress tops, hip-hop’s resident weirdo looks preposterously outrageous! Young Thug has definitely managed to have his name on the list as hip-hop’s new weird style icon. Perhaps for many that are familiar with pop culture, you may already know Young Thug is not only known for his talent when it comes to making music.
Young Thug or Thugger, as he also goes by, is also known for his rather odd and eccentric fashion choices. Well that’s his clothing choice . . . now the problem arises when people try to emulate him. What man in his right senses would have the audacity to prance around town in a dress top? I shake my head in disdain, as I write this trying to fade the images of some youths I have seen wearing these dresses.
The trend is just awful and I don’t see any woman in their right senses being flattered by any man that wears a dress top.
It is just down right goofy for a man to wear a dress. That’s my opinion. I have seen lots of youths wearing these dresses or dress tops (whatever they are called) and I just shudder in disbelief at the sight. Trying to emulate what you see on TV, especially if it is on a rap video doesn’t work in real life.
Most of these artistes just wear those outfits for the video and I guess some do it just to seek attention, which makes them remain relevant in their line of business.
It is not only Young Thug in the hip-hop realm who wears these dresses but a number of them.
As I noted some of them say it’s just for their videos and wouldn’t wear some of those trends in public. I read a story online about another famous American rapper, Wiz Khalifa defending his fashion choice, after his attire sparked much confusion and outrage on social media.
The rapper occasionally wears skirts and leggings. I really wonder if I bumped my head and forgot that these items are worn by women.
Anyway Wiz addressed his fashion choices via Instagram with a photo of himself wearing a skirt and pair of leggings.
He captioned the picture: “All of my outfits are a complete expression. Might not be what I would wear on the street because I feel like this once in a lifetime,” read part of the caption, which I obviously had to edit as it had unfriendly language and phrases.
Anyway the dress phenomenon really has hip-hop fans debating on the sexuality of some of these artistes who wear dresses.
Some actually think their minds are being controlled by the “Illuminati,” but that’s debate for another forum.
In the mind of a hip-hop homophobe, “something isn’t right when men get their nails done and wear dresses. Women have been responding and still are responding to this trend and trust me their words are venom!
“Unless they are starring in a Kung Fu movie its fine by me, however, if they want to dress like that on the street then it’s a straight no! Men should be men, they wear trousers not dresses,” said one lady.
“If you see a man wearing a dress and it’s just the two of you (you being a man) in the room, run! Run as fast as you can because that man will sure as hell rape you!
“On a more serious note, men wearing dresses is just ridiculous. How can they want to compete with women in the ladies section? Some of these trends set by these Americans are just bad for Africa. Look at the way some of the youths are behaving and dressing nowadays? Pure delinquency is what it is,” said another lady.
“If you are a man wearing one of these dresses . . . and you walk up to me trying to chat me up, I will just give you my make-up bag and give you advice on being a swanky chic. Dresses are for the fairer sex that’s what I was brought up to believe. Not this nonsense we see these days.”
Some of these trends are appealing to where they originate from and not other continents. My advice to the youths is quit trying to dress like rappers or else you might end up looking foolish and corny in trends that you don’t understand.
I hope the message will get across and we will be seeing less of these weird trends.
