TWO of the 107 political parties, Zimbabwe Rainbow Democratic Party (ZRDP) and People’s Rainbow Coalition (PRC) recently embarked on a series of door-to-door campaigns in Bulawayo in an effort to canvass for votes ahead of the harmonised elections.
ZRDP president and candidate for Member of Parliament for Bulawayo East constituency Mr Cuthbert Ncube said the party undertook to embark on door-to-door campaigns as part of its efforts to enhance its interface with the electorate.
“The reason we are doing these door-to-door campaigns is to identify ourselves with the electorate as well as encouraging them that we should put our resolve together for the betterment of our country while also dispelling the notion that when elected into the National House of Assembly we won’t come back to the people.
“At the moment we are not within the (Government) system whereby we can get in touch with the people that would facilitate the change we need but once we are accorded that opportunity we promise to work towards turning around the country’s economy, which is currently in a bad state largely owing to bad governance,” said Mr Ncube.
He said the door-to-door campaigns proved to be fruitful as a number of people embraced the party’s ideologies.
“The reception we received from the people was quite good with many of them asking where we have been all along but I’m saying it’s now a new dawn, let’s vote for the change we want,” said Mr Ncube.
PRC’s aspiring National Assembly Member for Nkulumane constituency Mr David Moyo said he carried out the door-to-door campaign to encourage the electorate to go and vote in numbers while also reminding them to vote for him.
“I carried out a door-to-door campaign to inform and remind the community that time is lapsing. We were only left with a week before the elections. I had quite an engaging interface with the people in my constituency and I reminded them to refrain from voting for anyone who has hardly assisted them and who is a stranger in their eyes. I live with the people and I am well known in this constituency and the charity work I have done in communities over the years is there for all and sundry to see,” he said.
