ONE of Zimbabwe’s most in-demand gospel divas, Dorcas Moyo, is poised to shake things up on her forthcoming album by collaborating with artistes from beyond the gospel music scene.
This bold move aims to diversify her sound and reach a broader audience while spreading her message of hope.
In a refreshing twist, Moyo has enlisted the talents of husky-voiced Afro-jazz sensation Mbeu — front man of the Mhodzi Tribe for a thrilling production.
It has been a whirlwind journey for Dorcas Moyo Music, with the songstress capturing regional showbiz attention after clinching the coveted Africa best female gospel artiste of the year award at a glittering ceremony last year.
Undoubtedly, Moyo has been the gospel music scene’s biggest success story over the past two years.
This year, she has revealed that she is not resting on her laurels, but instead, forging ahead with an exciting new chapter in her career.
Speaking about the title of her forthcoming project, which marks her 10th album, Moyo revealed that it will be christened “Mugeri Tsvatu,” a theme that revisits her fascination with hair, as seen in her previous albums, “Bvudzi Rangu Ramera,” “Mhanza Haisekwi” and “Mvere Dzabvepi”.
The album’s title draws inspiration from a Biblical verse — 2 Samuel 10:4-5, which recounts the tale of Hanun, the Ammonite king’s ungratefulness and humiliation of David’s envoys by shaving half their beards, cutting their garments in the middle, and sending them back to David in a state of shame.
The title track explores this theme of ungratefulness among humanity, highlighting how Hanun repaid kindness with evil and humiliation.
“So Hanun seized David’s envoys, shaved off half of each man’s beard, cut off their garments at the back, and sent them away. When David was told about this, he sent messengers to meet the men, for they were greatly humiliated,” reads part of the scripture.
Moyo explains: “There is no issue with the album’s title. You will notice that several of my past albums have hair-themed titles — we have deliberately continued this trajectory.”
Moyo believes that this theme serves as a poignant reflection of societal issues, making it a perfect exposition of her message to the world.
“As has been our mission to raise the bar with each new release, our 2025 album will be no exception.
“Before sharing it with the world, we must be convinced that it surpasses our previous works. People should prepare themselves for a blockbuster album.
“This is something all Dorcas Moyo Music fans should eagerly anticipate, as I am certain your gospel diva will not disappoint.
“Traditionally, our albums feature 10 tracks, and we are maintaining that format,” said Moyo, who could not reveal too much, but hinted that the project boasts exceptional songs.
Weekender Entertainment has learnt that some of the songs set to feature on the new album include “Kazevezeve,” “Adalitsika” (Chewa) and Jerusalem.
Moyo revealed that the project will include about four collaborations with Mbeu being one of the confirmed synergies.
“We have around four collaborations on the album, and we are finalising which ones will make the cut. I can confirm that Mbeu will be among the featured artistes.
“We are also in talks with other notable artistes, including Leonard Zhakata, Alick Macheso, Mathias Mhere and Africa Praise, among others,” said Moyo.
She said local-based artistes scheduled to perform at her album launch include Mai Mukanganwa, Carol Chidzikwe, Blessing Shumba, Hosiah Chipanga, and Cloris Machuwaire.
Moyo’s previous projects include “Mhanza Haisekwe” (2023), “Bvudzi Rangu Ramera” (2022), “Bvisai Marara” (2021), “PaMarah Tapfuura”(2020), and “Ndibatsirei Mwari” (2020), among others.
