treament for a certain ailments.
Most managers fear doing things which they have not done before. Merely repeating what one has done before enables one to benefit from the experience effect.
Experience brings exposure, which increases confidence. Fear of going to new uncharted territories is common to most people because most people are not
comfortable with unfamiliar environments. Going into new territories is risky but instances highly rewarding.
Lack of personal ego
Personal ego at times decreases as people start to age. My father is a typical example, he thought he was too old to catch any fish. On the other hand, youngsters also feel too young to be associated with anything revolutionary.
Personal ego is important in driving one’s achievement initiative.
However, the ego has to be managed. Beyond a certain point ego develops into inflated ego, which is counter-productive. Managers with inflated egos listen to their emotions instead of facts.
Effects of peer pressure
Kingston failed to propose his love to Mercy because he was too preoccupied with how people will react if Mercy turned down his proposal.
On the other hand, Mercy failed to snatch her prized man because she felt it was unAfrican for a woman to confess her love for a man. Her biggest worry was how would her peers react to her making the first move.
Unfortunately, no one advised both of them that there are no two situations which are identical in life. Every situation is evaluated by its own merits My father
appeared to have a straight jacket approach to his interaction with his daughters-in-law. In his opinion, he was not supposed to be at any of his moments of failure.
Undoubtedly peer pressure oils the wheels of doubt in people’s minds. However, one can never taste success without taking the first leap of faith to try something even if the environmental factors appear hostile.
Living in the past
All of us have failed one way or the other. We have tried certain projects, which did not yield good results.
Many people think that their past failures will continue to recur in their future endeavours and therefore they are better off not embarrassing themselves by trying.
Past failures are only useful to the extent of being tutorials for future endeavours only. Most business celebrities like Strive Masiyiwa failed before they eventually succeeded.
To overcome one’s doubts, managers are encouraged to put behind past failures and embrace current and future opportunities with an open mind.
In any case, no two situations will occur in exactly the same way in one’s life.
What you look at will determine
your success or failure
In the Bible we are told that Peter and other the disciples saw Jesus walking on water. Peter was full of faith and he did not doubt that he could also walk on water like Jesus. Peter walked towards Jesus. The moment he had the slightest doubt in his mind he drowned (Matthew 13).
This story illustrates that what you focus on determines your success or failure. If one focuses on the possibilities, one sows the seed of faith. If one focuses on the impossibilities, one sows the seed of doubt.
The more one focuses at possibilities the more one’s faith grows. Faith is a crucial ingredient for a manager’s success.
This scripture also points out clearly that the opposite of faith is doubt.
The less doubtful a manager is the more faith he/she has. On the other hand, the more doubtful a manager is the less faith.
