Doves Funeral yesterday donated two refrigerators and two microwaves to the Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals’ Paediatric Oncology Unit.
The ward, which is the only referral in the country for children living with cancer, takes up to 30 patients.
The donation follows a promise by Doves Funeral to adopt the children’s ward in commemoration of World Cancer Day marked on February 4.
Speaking at the event, Doves Funeral human resources manager, Commissioner Trish Jasi said:
“As Doves Funeral, this year we are focused on the global health calendar and have decided to do our part.
“This idea to attend to children with cancer was birthed at Parirenyatwa Group of Hospitals and we decided to shift our focus away from only looking at the wellness of our own staff.
“We are really humbled and feel appreciated to be able to donate to the hospital and it makes us proud as an organisation,” said Jasi.
Jasi also said the funeral service provider will continue partnering with more institutions.
“Doves Funeral services has also decided to partner with corporates at the beginning of the chain to understand how else we can help to improve the lives of ordinary Zimbabweans,” she said.
The hospitals’ finance director, Mercy Sanzira, welcomed the donation saying it will go a long way.
“As the only ward that looks after children with cancer and haematology disorders, we appreciate what Doves Funeral has done for the hospital.
“The donation will go a long way in helping us conserve a number of things for the children and improve on their recovery,” she said.
