PERMANENT Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Arts and Culture Dr Thokozile Chitepo is expected to grace the Manicaland Show of Arts (Manisa) annual exhibition launch set to be held at National Gallery of Zimbabwe next Friday.
The launch, which coincides with the gallery’s 15th anniversary since its inception in 1999, will see a galaxy of visual artistes showcasing various works of art such as paintings, sculpture, crafts, textiles, mixed media and photography.
The two-day event will run under the theme: “Our surroundings – Zvakatikomberedza”.
The official opening will be conducted by Culture Fund as well as SIDA. Hillcrest College Marimba Band, St Joseph’s Choir and poet Praise Ndlovu put up sterling performances at last year’s event which was graced by former NGZ Mutare director Judy Mutunhu’s husband, Tendai Mutunhu. The exhibition is aimed at promoting Manicaland resident visual artistes.
In an interview, Manisa 2014 edition chairperson Elizabeth Muusha said the exhibition involved both senior and upcoming artistes from various districts of Manicaland such as Buhera, Nyanga, Mutasa, Mutare, Chipinge, Makoni and Chimanimani.
“We are looking forward with honour to host Dr Chitepo. The exhibition will be special in many ways. We encourage artistes to be more creative in observing their surroundings. The event will be open to schools and the public on July 26. In fusing both visual and performing arts, we expect a hive of activity to take place. A lot of prizes will be awarded to winners. There will be entertainment galore from different performing groups. This will also be a grand opportunity for individuals to sell their own products for a small fee,” she said.
She extended the begging bowl to the corporate world and individuals to come aboard with financial support.
