Vicious rapist gets 20 years behind bars

A VICIOUS Buhera man who hit a 19-year-old girl with stones from a catapult, sjamboked her with a switch and uprooted her pubic hair and pocketed it before violently raping her was slapped with a 20-year jail sentence.
The brutal rapist, Peter Kubvoruno (25), also pocketed the girl’s underwear, cellphone together with the pubic hair and fled from the crime scene when he heard passers-by talking.

Kubvoruno of Nyashanu, who was not represented and was denying the charges, will, however, serve 18 effective years after Rusape regional magistrate Mr Livingstone Chipadza suspended two years on condition of good behaviour.

State prosecutor Mr James Wirima told the court that Kubvoruno, a married man, went to the girl’s house and asked for some water to drink and was given.

“After drinking the water, the accused person forcibly fondled the complainant’s breasts and she hit him with a metal bar. Kubvoruno then shot the complainant with a catapult and she ran out of the kitchen. He ran after her attacking her with stones from the catapult.

“He then grabbed her and assaulted her with a stick on her back. Kubvoruno then pulled her into a bush.

“He forcibly removed the complainant’s undergarment and put it in his pocket. He further pulled off part of the girl’s pubic hair and put it into his pocket together with her cellphone,” said Mr Wirima.

The girl also told the court that Kubvoruno had an axe on his waist and threatened to kill her.

She further said he constantly assaulted her during the brutal rape.
