He was buried yesterday morning at his farm in Norton.
In his condolence message to the widow Mrs Shirley Hargreaves and the entire family, Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet, Dr Misheck Sibanda, said the entire public service was saddened by the death.
“We indeed are deeply saddened by this fateful occurrence, which has robbed the nation of a committed professional, who served Government with distinction in the Livestock and Veterinary Services Department over a period spanning 41 years,” Dr Sibanda said.
“Our prayers and thoughts are with the family, that the good Lord may grant them comfort and fortitude as they grieve over his sad departure.
“Dr Hargreaves shall continue to be fondly remembered by his superiors and colleagues in Government, all of whom held him in high esteem.”
