‘Take full control of resources’

He made the remarks while officiating at the national field day held to reward farmers who excelled in the last farming season.
The function was held at Langeni Primary School in Beitbridge yesterday.
Zanu-PF secretary for labour and production Cde Dzikamai Mavhaire also attended the event.
Mr Charles Mulowa of Tshapfuche Village was crowned the overall winner in the animal husbandry segment while Mr Misheck Nhliziyo of Lesanth was the winner in the cropping category.
Cde Dokora urged Zimbabweans to take full control of their resources while using them to promote national development and sustain their livelihoods.
“We need to shift from the dependence syndrome and focus more towards building a formidable economy using our agricultural and natural resources. Let’s be innovative and avoid being crybabies.”
He said the success of the land reform programme was in Zimbabweans’ hands.
“Transformation is a revolution which needs us to be consistent in all our agricultural development projects,” he said.
Cde Dokora urged farmers in Natural Region Five to focus more on animal husbandry and small grains production.
Beitbridge district is drought-prone.
The district is home to 109 877 head of cattle, 145 160 goats, 59 132 sheep, 36 241 donkeys, 1 692 pigs, 6 444 dogs and 28 224 chickens.
Cde Mavhaire said: “We are now walking on the road towards agricultural development which is a very difficult task but the call is for us to remain focused if we are to achieve our set target. Matabeleland South provincial Governor and Resident Minister Angeline Masuku called on Government and its development partners to channel more resources to livestock production and cattle ranching projects.
She urged Government to expeditiously come up with a blueprint that seeks to mobilise funds for those farmers involved in animal husbandry.
