HE has taken the local urban groove circles hostage with his deep voice and energetic performance. Dracular, real name Tevin Witness Matanda, made his way into the music circles with a blistering eight-track album expected to be officially released in December. The album, Ka1, carries tracks such as Rudo Rwevabereki, Kumberi Ndiko Kwatakananga, Vavengi, Ka1, Tichaita Vahombe, Amai naBaba, Ndizvo Zvega and Zimbabwe.
Dracular was born on April 13, 1995 at Rusape General Hospital and is doing Lower Six at Madzivire High School in Chivhu.
Speaking after a relative’s wedding recently in Gweru, Dracular said his album would take him places.
“I think my album will take me places. I have released a single Ka1, and it has a video featuring Young Breezy who is also my partner. I am already working on the other videos,’’ said the talented artiste.
Dracular was inspired by one of his uncles, Onias Chidzvete, who used to play him a drum and taught him how to sing.
‘’My uncle Onias will always play me a small drum and used to teach me how to sing from an early age until I got used to singing. He also bought me plastic flutes and a small keyboard,’’ he said.
As young as he is, he already owns a recording studio in Nyazura where he lives with his grandparents.
‘’The studio is called Carter Entertainment Studio. I wanted to sing and record, but I did not have anything . . . so my granny bought me a P4 computer. I taught myself how to record. I also raised some money to buy a microphone, but these things were not enough. A certain friend saw the music passion in me and helped me out. We bought a six-channel mixer, speakers, keyboard and an acoustic guitar,’’ he said.
Dracular’s dream is to become famous and he also hopes to do a Diploma in Computer Science.
‘’Everyone chases dreams and mine is to become popular and make people around me proud and also being able to sustain myself. I also want to do Computer Science and become a computer engineer,’’ said the Nyazura-based artiste.
His songs carry the messages of love, hope, peace and hardships.
‘’I grew up under the care of my grandparents who taught me how to love and now that I am old I want to preach and teach other people out there the same message. My message to all the youths out there is: ‘stay loyal, show love even if you don’t get anything in return. Be destined’,” he said.
