This is because the sport has continued to grow in popularity due to its accessibility to people from all walks of life. Dragpro club secretary, Susan Zevgolis, said they are looking forward to another exciting event.
“The stage was set at the last event for the ‘rag wars’ between the two fastest cars in the country — the yellow V8 Beach Buggy driven by Patrick O’Hara and the highly modified blue Subaru STi driven by Kevin Allmark.
“With the help of the cooler weather, both cars ran personal best times at Donnybrook. Patrick managed an 11.578 seconds pass with a speed of 194.59kph in the Buggy, but that was not enough to conquer the 11.285 seconds pass and top speed of 201.49kph posted by Kevin in the Subaru.
“The battle between these two giants continues on August 4,” said Zevgolis.
Another personal best and a quarter-mile track record for Donnybrook was posted by Phil Archenoul at the June event in the motorcycle category with his Suzuki GSXR 1000cc with a time of 10.497 seconds and a speed of 219.29kph. Archenoul has to watch his back at the next event from Donovan Maxfield on the 1000cc Yamaha R1 who ran a best time of 10.911 and a speed of 217.52 kph on the day.
Dragpro club chairman, Mano Zevgolis, said there have been improvements on the participants’ performance and they are expecting the same to continue tomorrow.
“The times run at the last event showed good progress in this performance sport where tenths of seconds (and not whole seconds) are now being fought for by the top contestants.”
