A SANGOMA is facing aggravated indecent assault charges after she allegedly forced herself on a 17-year-old mentally-challenged boy whom she was supposed to help through her ‘healing powers’.
Catherine Nhongo 39, appeared before regional magistrate Donald Ndirowei who remanded her in custody to today pending bail considerations.
The court heard that on November 10, the boy’s sister met Nhongo on her way from the shops.
The boy’s sister told Nhongo that her brother was having speech challenges and was living with other disabilities.
Nhongo allegedly then offered to help.
The sister went home with Nhongo who then requested beer and cigarettes before starting the spiritual proceedings.
The boy’s brother went to buy the required items which Nhongo began to consume.
She ordered the boy‘s brother to put mealie meal in the boy’s mouth.
She started touching the boy all over his body and instructed his siblings to go out of the house.
She asked to be left alone with the boy and they complied.
The siblings heard weird sounds and, after about 15 minutes, the boy went outside raising his hands trying to communicate something.
He then took his brother’s phone and typed that Nhongo had raped him.
The brother alerted his sisters and they contacted the police.
Nhongo attempted to flee but was caught by the boy’s brother.
