MOURNERS were treated to a dramatic scene at the burial of a Chitungwiza truck driver who took his own life after learning that his wife was having an extra-marital affair with their landlord in South Africa.
Tonderai Spacious Mukaro’s wife, Christine Mashavire, removed her blouse during the burial ceremony as she protested over death of her four-month-old son, Junior Mukaro.
She also threw her late son’s clothes into the grave.
The toddler is believed to have been strangled by Tonderai after Christine told him in a text message that he wasn’t the father of the baby.
Tonderai brought the child to Zimbabwe in his truck before he strangled the baby and then killed himself.
Tonderai’s brother-in-law, Robert Kanyangarara, said Christine behaved strangely by removing her blouse in anger.
“The wife travelled from South Africa to attend the funeral and burial of her husband and son.
“At the cemetery, she removed her blouse, shouting obscenities against Tonderai, and threw her late son’s clothes into the grave in protest,” Robert said.
Robert said Tonderai told him that he drove from his base in South Africa because he wanted to deliver a message to his in-laws.
He then committed suicide.
Robert said he left Tonderai and the baby sleeping in the dining room on that dramatic night.
When he woke up the following morning, Robert said he found out that Tonderai and the child were not in the dining room.
He searched for them outside and found Tonderai lying unconscious, with white froth around his mouth.
His lifeless body was on top of a shallow grave he had dug in the backyard, where he had buried the toddler.
Robert said he had tried in vain to resolve the couple’s problems but to no avail.
Tonderai and Junior were buried at Nyatsime Cemetery in Chitungwiza.
