Controversy sales!
AFTER posting a video on social media with connotations that somehow “under-looked” her peers in the music industry, “Black Diva” has seen her sentiments creating more enemies for her in the sector.
In the video, the South Africa-based Ama Piano musician said creatives from Matabeleland are not getting enough support because they are singing “trash.”
“Who do you want to listen to your music and support you, if you are singing nonsense?” questioned Black Diva on her video, which has since gone viral.
The post has seen a number of musicians and fans insulting her on social media because of her “naked truth.”
“I embrace negativity and constructive criticism, if my music is not appealing I stand to be corrected because that is how we grow as musicians. I know some artistes got offended with what I said but the truth will remain, no one will buy something that they don’t like,” said Black Diva in an interview with B-Metro.
Her controversial video has actually attracted more people to follow her music and damn, she is unique and she knows what she is doing.
She also has good numbers on social media, with one of her videos garnering 7 million views in one month. “I am grateful to the people, who have been following my music and content. Through their love, I have managed to grow as an artiste and even managed to monetise my craft,” she said
Black Diva fell in love with music at a tender age while growing up at Ensango Village in Insiza, Matabeleland South under chief Dladla.
“I believe I was born a singer. I was that noisy kid, who sang the whole day. I remember, I would climb on trees and sing, just to get attention from people around me,” said Black Diva.
She went to Shangani Mine primary and secondary, before proceeding to Gloag high school for her Advanced level studies.
“I have seen on most of the comments on social media some claiming that I am illiterate. For their information, apart from music I am a Virtual Assistant and currently doing my degree in Information Technology and Software Development at Boston College,” she boasted.
Under her name, she has released catchy singles including Ntombiyami, Abangane and Thilolilo.
Next week, she will be dropping a new single titled Nyawolwami, which will be complemented with a video.
