AFRO-MUSIC artist, Rutendo “Frya” Maregere, says her collaboration with Winky D is something she has been yearning to do for some time.
Frya collaborated with Winky D on the music video ‘Akayenda,’ which is currently on number two, on the Black Entertainment Television (BET) channel.
Early on Sunday morning, the songstress was welcomed as a new recruit at Vigilance Music. “As an independent artist, it’s beautiful to be recognised by such an exceptional team.
“Being able to collaborate with WinkyD on Akayenda has been a dream come true for me. I have wanted to collaborate with Winky D for a while and we both followed each other on social media.
“This was just the perfect time for both of us, we met up for the final process of recording before creating the visuals and I recently performed the record with him at HICC at the Redefined Concert.”
The songstress has an album, Balance, and three EP’s — Dots, Lifetimes and Lifetimes (deluxe pack).
“All my music is available on all music streaming platforms. My genre of music is Afro music, a blend of Afrobeats, Afro Rn’B, Afropiano and Afro soul.
“My voice, tone and writing are very versatile so I don’t limit myself to just one thing because it’s not naturally how I am wired,”
Frya’s music was also featured on the Netflix series ‘Blood and Water.’
“Well, all I can do is to be myself and follow my path the best way I feel how. It is no longer our responsibility as women to try to demystify anything. In 2024, women are showing the world what they can do and actively speaking up for themselves and, as you can, see the world is catching up.
“I’m doing my small part through the music, through my lyrics.”
