Three people appeared in court yesterday to answer to separate charges of unlawful possession of crystal meth worth more than $160 000.
Cynthia Handson, 21, and Gilbert Soko, 25, were jointly charged and remanded to February 8, for their bail application, while Shawn Jiriyengwa was remanded to today.
Handson and Soko denied the charges through their lawyer, who said it was wrong to suggest that Handson was hiding the crystal meth in her bra.
“Your Worship, my client as you can see does not wear a bra, so it is quite surprising that the arresting officer said she was hiding the drugs in her bra. However, we intend to make proper submissions on the day for bail application,” said the lawyer.
It is alleged that on January 31, narcotics detectives received information that Handson and Soko were in possession of drugs which they were selling in Chitungwiza.
Detectives pounced on Soko and found 10 sachets of crystal meth after searching him.
The 10 sachets weighed about 3g with a street value of $30 000.
On the same day at around 2pm, detectives received information that Handson was also in possessing of the same drug.
They conducted a body search and found six sachets hidden in her bra. The sachets weighed about 1.5g with a street value of $15 000.
Jiriyengwa was found with 12 sachets with a street value of $30 000.
