adminDouglas Vambe, the talented drummer who is known for his popular Jerusarema jingle played before and after Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation’s news bulletins, has been laid to rest. Vambe died on Wednesday after a short illness, six days before his 80th birthday.
He was laid to rest at his rural home in Chief Nyajina’s area in Uzumba District, Mashonaland East Province.
When The Herald visited the homestead, a huge crowd had gathered to pay their last respects to the man who represented Zimbabwe during the 2010 Fifa World Cup Finals in South Africa, where he exhibited his talent alongside R&B gurus, Shakira and R Kelly.
In the crowd was Vambe’s only daughter Mrs Margaret Reid, who described her father as a hard worker.
“I phoned him two weeks ago and he told me that his right hand was getting weaker every day. I suspected that he was about to have stroke so I advised him to visit the hospital that very day. I phoned him the following day and he told me that he was admitted at Marondera Hospital.” — Herald Reporter.
