Drunkard ‘Peter Moyo’ arrested for assaulting mom

Tsenulo Moyo

“HONOUR your father and your mother that your days may be long in the land”.

This Biblical advice, one of the Ten Commandments, seemingly held no meaning for 24-year-old Peter Moyo from Lochview suburb in Bulawayo, who was arrested for physically assaulting his biological mother.

This was heard when Moyo appeared before Bulawayo magistrate Progress Murandu facing two counts of physical abuse and breaching a protection order.

He pleaded guilty to both offences.

He was fined US$400 for each offense and sentenced to six months in prison for each offense if the fine was not paid.
Circumstances are that on the evening of 17 November 2022, Moyo went to his mother’s house, violating a protection order she had obtained against him.

It is reported that he then had a misunderstanding with his sister Pamela. His mother intervened in an attempt to reason with him, but he struck her in the left eye with an unknown object, causing bruises.

The matter was reported to the police leading to the accused’s arrest.

The court learnt that the accused’s heavy alcohol consumption led his mother to seek a protection order against her own son. He would come home drunk every day and insult her.
