Dubai-based conglomerate Jampur Group is exploring investment opportunities in Zimbabwe’s power generation and agriculture sectors, its Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Mr Mohammad Shafiq has said.

Jampur Group has interests in energy, mining, heavy equipment and international trade, operating across several markets in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

Mr Shafiq was speaking after paying a courtesy call on President Mnangagwa on the sidelines of the ongoing World Governments Summit.

“We had a very good meeting with His Excellency,” said Mr Shafiq.

“We discussed our intention in Zimbabwe related to the power sector, generation as well as the transmission. We also discussed the agriculture sector and anything else that is needed in the heavy equipment area.”

He said the group is prioritising the energy sector as part of its initial entry into the Zimbabwean market, with plans to establish power generation capacity to support the country’s growing energy needs.

“At the present time, we are looking at the power sector to have a power plant there, power generation equipment, and then the agriculture sector,” said Mr Shafiq.

“Those are the two areas we are looking at initially.”

Mr Shafiq said Jampur Group is considering a diversified energy mix, including renewable energy, as well as conventional power sources.

“Power will be one of the items, renewable energy,” he said.
