Pop star Michael Jackson is still a hero and icon for many people, as his dance moves cut across all generations with people still enchanted by the King of Pop.As a result, there are many people around the world who imitate the star. This is true for Zimbabwe as a Bulawayo-born performer, Prince Dube, 26, idolises Jackson and is being noted for that. In fact, he appeared on an episode of the soap, Small House Saga as Michael Jackson a few years ago.
Dube who hails from Pumula often spots an MJ-like costume. At the weekend, he drew the attention of Dendera muso Allan Chimbetu at Alick Macheso’s show held at Amphitheatre in Bulawayo.
“I have performed for a lot of people but dancing is in me. I am an entertainer at heart and I have been performing since September 2006,” he said.
He said after his first performance he never looked back and has since worked with many notable artistes from Zimbabwe.
“I have worked with Roki, Mafriq, Stunner, Maskiri and not forgetting Girls La Musica. I was spotted by the guys from Small House Saga and they made me their Michael Jackson for one of their episodes,” said Dube.
He said after that, he made the great trek to South Africa in 2010 to seek greener pastures. Dube said while in South Africa he worked for a marketing company that dealt with product activation for various organisations.
Dube said however he could not further his career in South Africa as his papers were not in order so had to return home last year. He works as an assistant plumber in the city as he cannot rely on dancing alone for a living.
