Dudu Manhenga to sing for charity

THIS Saturday, Bulawayo-born jazz sensation Dudu Manhenga will grace the stage at the Diplomatic Charity Bazaar, held at Old Georgians Sports Club in Mt Pleasant, Harare.

The event, organised by the Diplomatic Spouses Association (DSA), promises a vibrant mix of entertainment, culture, and philanthropy, uniting the diplomatic community with Zimbabwe’s citizens in a celebration of global cultures.

Manhenga, known for her captivating Afro-jazz music, is no stranger to using her talents for a noble cause. The singer, who has travelled the world and performed for dignitaries—including Pope Benedict XVI—will lend her voice once again to support charitable initiatives.

Proceeds from the bazaar will aid various projects championed by the DSA, further underscoring the vital role that creative minds play in philanthropic and civic efforts.

“It’s important for artistes to give back to the community. The cause of this event is close to my heart as a social entrepreneur because these are issues I deal with daily. The school we run—named ‘Almanac’ — is our commitment to serving those among us who need a helping hand,” she said.

Manhenga’s passion for the underprivileged is evident in her work. For over three decades, she has not only graced stages but has also founded a school registered with the Ministry of Education aimed at helping children in need.

Her call for support resonates deeply, as she seeks donations ranging from stationery to clothing and building materials, all essential for nurturing the dreams of her students.

This Saturday’s bazaar will feature a diverse array of performances and cultural displays from 21 embassies, offering attendees a chance to experience a colorful blend of traditional foods and international shopping.

In addition to the entertainment, the DSA stall will host a raffle, with exciting prizes including air travel, hotel stays, and exquisite jewellery.

As the sun rises over Harare this weekend, the excitement at Old Georgians Sports Club will be palpable.

Manhenga’s performance will not only entertain but also reinforce the message that creativity and compassion can work hand in hand to uplift communities and foster growth.
