PROMISING Zimbabwean motor racing driver Zac Dufty is scheduled to leave Harare tomorrow for Italy where he will race in the Rok World Championship finals at South Garda racetrack near Verona between October 20–25.
He will also race in the Italian National Trofeo Cup on October 18 as a warm-up race.
Dufty (10), who has been karting since he was six years old, will be the only Zimbabwean at this prestigious event and will be one of the youngest drivers competing.
He races in the MiniRok class here at Harare Karting Club and will be racing in the same class in Italy.
The 2014 Rok World Championship will attract over 300 top kart drivers in the world from over 100 countries.
Instead of the usual field of five or six drivers he competes with in Zimbabwe, Dufty will compete with a grid of approximately 70 drivers in the qualifying heats.
However, Dufty is not intimidated by the size of the grid.
“I have to race my own race, choose my lines and my braking points carefully, avoid any incidents on the track and go as fast as I can,” he said.
Dufty, who also races in South Africa, has raced against Stuart White, the 2013 South Africa MiniRok Champion, who will also be competing in Italy.
He has also raced against Blaine Rademeyer and Jordan North, who raced in Italy last year and are at the top of the South African championship this year.
“We are friends off the track, but when we are racing… it’s different. I always try to beat him. This will be my second year to race at the Rok World Championships, as I also raced there last year,” Dufty says.
