THE opening national golf amateur tournament, the Dugmore and Fellowship Trophy, has been moved from this weekend.
The annual event, which is traditionally the season-opener, was set for the Bulawayo Golf Club starting tomorrow.
But the golfers will have to wait for another day.
Zimbabwe Golf Association development officer, Boniface Chigorimbo, confirmed the postponement.
“All concerned golf stakeholders, be advised of the postponement of the Dugmore and Fellowship Trophy 2017 competition which was scheduled for this weekend at Bulawayo Golf Club,” he said in a statement.
“This has been necessitated by the incessant rains, thus rendering the course (not good) for playing conditions.
“The alternative date will be advised by the end of the week and any inconveniences caused are sincerely regretted.”
The tournament carries points for the Eisenhower Trophy and several foreign-based golfers were expected to take part.
Kieran Vincent and Stuart Krog are some of the local players, who are based outside the country, back home on vacation.
Meanwhile, up-and-coming Zimbabwe junior and amateur golfer David Amm is leading the ZGA order of merit after the Player’s Championships held recently.
The Chapman-based 17-year-old sits on 305 points having played in nine games out of 19.
Never Milanzi of Country Club is in second place.
