Van Gaal U-turn

LONDON. — Former Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists he has not yet retired and confirmed he recently turned down Valencia.

The Dutchman looked set to walk away from the game earlier this week, citing family reasons.

Van Gaal was sacked by United after winning the FA Cup and confirmed he would not be seeking another role in management.

While the 65-year-old admits he is unlikely to return, he insists a decision hasn’t been made just yet.

“No, no no. I have not retired,” Van Gaal told Cadena SER.

“I am just taking a sabbatical year and after that I will decide. There is a good chance that I will retire.

“In the Netherlands the press writes what they want. I said that I might retire, but this is not the time to say it and for this reason I have taken a sabbatical year and then I will decide.”

Van Gaal, who has been linked with a blockbuster move to China, also confirmed he was approached by Valencia after Cesare Prandelli’s departure. — The Mirror.
