adminVictor Mukura (25) and his cousin Tapfumaneyi Muronzi (28) of Zengeza 4 and Nenyere flats in Mbare denied the charges when their trial started before Chitungwiza magistrate Ms Olivia Mariga.
However, magistrate Mariga convicted them after overwhelming evidence against them.
Ms Mariga sentenced the two to 18 months in prison each but set aside three months for three years.
The other three months were suspended on condition they restitute each of the complainants US$142 before March 30.
The duo is also facing four other pending counts of robbery.
In their defence, they all claimed that they boarded a Kombi to Mbare from Chitungwiza when CID officers intercepted the car and arrested them.
They further claimed that police took them to the scene of the crime and forced them to make indications.
However, magistrate Mariga in her ruling dismissed their defence on grounds that the testimony of three prosecution witnesses clearly showed that the duo committed the offence.
Prosecutor Ms Caroline Kugarakuripi proved that on November 12 last year, Steven Makuzva employed as a security guard was on night duty at Makoni Shopping Centre.
At around 2am, while he was at the back of the shop he was guarding, the two in the company of other four suspects still on the run arrived at the shop.
They struck the unsuspecting guard with an iron bar before taking his cell phone and dragging him about 50 meters away from the shop.
They used his shoelaces to tie his hands before breaking into the shop using a crow bar.
While inside, they stole 24 gold rings, two wristwatches, a gold bracelet and 35 gold chains belonging to Nhamo Madonha.
They broke into another shop owned by Ruth Shamuyarira where they stole clothes valued at US$1 146.
Constable Mavavire, who was on patrol that night, disturbed the duo and they ran away.
Investigations led to the arrest of Mukura who was caught wearing some of the stolen rings.
