THE pride of the province will be at stake when Manicaland basketball powerhouses Dangamvura High School boys’ team and Mutare Girls’ High plunge into battle against other provincial representatives in this year’s top schools championships in Bulawayo. The two-day event starts tomorrow at Falcon College.
In their quest to bring the silverware home, star-studded Dangamvura High boys’ team will bank on the mercurial instincts of national Under-20 player Redeemer ‘‘Rimz’’ Njovo alongside the talented duo of Tinotenda Sachiti and Tinashe ‘‘Kobe’’ Chirembwe, while Mutare Girls’ High will be looking up to Tafadzwa Mutsekwa and former national Under-17 sensation, Rudo ‘‘Rue’’ Vito.
Given that Tawanda Wemba, an experienced mentor, will be in charge of the Manicaland girls’ tournament representatives, hopes are high that the Mutare side will perform above average.
Manicaland Basketball Association spokesperson Taurai Dhliwayo expressed confidence that the two provincial representatives will fare well in the Bulawayo contest.
“We have no doubt that Dangamvura High and Mutare Girls’ High will perform well in the Top Schools tournament in Bulawayo. Judging by the preparations that the two schools undertook, we are confident that they will certainly do well.
“We also have confidence in the technical staff of both teams. They have tried and tested coaches who will come in handy in the fight for top honours,’’ said Dhliwayo.
