Dynamos rediscover winning formula

Onward Gangata, Kwekwe United 0-3 Dynamos

DYNAMOS look like a team rediscovering themselves. Conviction, not just belief, carried them through yesterday as they swept aside basement club Kwekwe United 3-0 in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League tie at Ascot Stadium.

The Harare giants turned in their best display of the season, winning back to back league games for the first time in 2025. For long suffering supporters, this was the kind of performance that felt like the old Dynamos, not just a side scraping for survival.

Yes, the opposition was the weakest in the division, but DeMbare played with purpose. They showed fight and pride, determined to protect the badge.

Jairos Kasondo, Wisdom Mtasa and substitute Ransom Chingwara were on target as Kelvin Kaindu’s men extended their winning run in all competitions to four.

It was also the first time this league campaign that Dynamos scored more than once in a match.
That turnaround is slowly pulling them clear of the drop zone. They now sit on 22 points, five shy of Chicken Inn, who occupy the last safe spot.

Kaindu admitted the run has revived belief in his camp.
“It’s giving us a lot of confidence and belief winning four matches in a row but there is a lot of work still to do, if you look at how Kwekwe tried to come back in the second-half,” he said.

“It is all about the belief, and the response from the players has been good especially during this period. We won four matches, it shows the bond with the players is getting strong.”

Dynamos stamped their authority early. Within three minutes, Kasondo tapped home after Elton Nechiware spilled Tellmore Pio’s strike. Mtasa doubled the lead on 17 minutes, rifling in from close range.

Freddy Hammond thought he had added a third just after the half hour, only for referee Israel Nhevera to rule the ball hadn’t crossed the line. The Ghanaian then blazed over from close range in what was a miserable afternoon for him.

At the other end, Prince Tafiremutsa was largely untroubled, needing only one sharp save from Orlando Zvavarevi’s header.

The second half was more open. Dynamos defender Clive Mandivei denied Timothy January with an important block as Kwekwe pressed, but the introductions of Denver Mukamba and Enasio Perezo steadied the visitors.

Mukamba almost got on the scoresheet with a long range strike that skimmed wide before Chingwara sealed the result in the final minute, finishing off a flowing move involving Pio and Mukamba.

For Kwekwe United, the fight for survival now looks grim. Their coach Masimba Dinyero conceded as much.

“We still have eight matches to save ourselves. All we need to do is win all the matches and we will survive but for us now it’s all about marketing the players for next season because most of them are youngsters who still have a lot to prove.”
